Just prior to the Summer sale, Valve released Team Fortress as free to play! Personally, I haven't played it since they started the store for the silly looking hats.

Now that TF2 is free, what does that do to the price of the Orange Box? Previously it could be purchased for about $20, but we'll have to see what happens now that one of the major components is free. Speaking of the Orange Box, another included game Portal, has a successor - Portal 2 - that is on sale in the Steam Summer sale. It's over 30% off at the moment. I don't expect it to be any lower during this sale, but can probably be bought for about half-price by the Christmas sale.

Cobblestone, Redstone dust, wooden planks and iron ingots must all be used to create the piston. Pistons can be used for moving other blocks. Interestingly enough, you can use a piston and a slimeball to make a "sticky piston" which as the name implies, makes the block it;s moving stick to it. I've already seen them used for advanced gates on fences and such. What do you use pistons for?

Halfbot's in a bit of a bind. They created a game, and readied it for release in Apple's app store, only to find out someone had ripped it off, and started selling the exact game with the exact same name, but under their own brand.

The game, "The Blocks Cometh" looks like it has been blatantly ripped off by a coincidentally now-hard-to-find group called EdisonGame. You can find the timeline of what has happened over at Halfbot's website. It l;ooks to have started a week ago and there's still no word from Apple's copyright department.

I think all that would have to happen would be a rumor start that EdisonGame's version of this is a jailbreak app and Apple would crack down in minutes.

GoG.com is a pretty good source for older, yet enjoyable PC games. Copyright protection is removed from the games before GoG will sell them...usually. Motoracer 2 is having some problems related to this.

I still have my original Motoracer CD when I bought it years ago, and it's a fun game. GoG.com has been selling all three Motoracer games but copy protection has reared its ugly head on Motoracer 2.

It's result is "in motocross races, players can’t shift into a gear that’s higher than 3rd gear, and in Superbike mode they can’t shift above 4th. This makes many tracks extraordinarily difficult to win."

GoG has gone the extra mile with this problem, however. They admitted the problem and made it possible for those who have purchased the Motoracer problem to receive a credit for the purchase price of the game.

Kudos to Gog.com for doing the right thing.

Oh, and the last thing to remember, the products are all virtual, so that means the savings are too.

"Of all the games I’ve played none come as close in visual fidelity as the early levels in Modern Warfare 2. The game’s tutorial in Baghram Airfield feels picture perfect."

While realism will vary wildly from one game to the next some of today's latest games have made strides in depicting the mechanics of a flying bullet. Realism in texture, materials and scenery are far ahead. For a full look at one U.K. soldier's view of video games check out the article over at Just Stuff and Nonsense.

There are also several older pinball games on the list that look fun.

Speaking of pinball, do you know of any current pinball games for the PC? I really enjoyed the Silverball pinball back in the 90s, but have you noticed that you don't see many current pinball simulators? (no, the pinball that came with XP doesn't count)

Anyway, check out GOG.com for some cheap retro games while they're still on sale.

Want to win a mystery game? I've got a bunch of extra games to give away through the end of the year. Here's how I'll give these extra games away over the next few weeks. For the first few days, all you have to do is leave a comment on this post where you tell everyone what your favorite video game from the past was and what you liked about it. It can be an arcade game, console game or PC game, doesn't matter. Just be sure to give the title and what you liked best about it. Watch the front page of Gaming Bee for more giveaways throughout December.

Here's a list of some of the PC games I'll be giving away:

Freedom Force

Dogfighter

Counter Strike: Source

AudioSurf

I've got several copies of each, and I'll be randomly choosing comments on this post through the month to win the games. You don't have to be registered on the site to leave comments, but be sure to use a valid email address in the email field on the form, because that's how I'll be sending you your game if your comment is selected.

(all comments are moderated, so it might take a bit before they appear. don't submit them twice, just give it a little time - thanks!)

UPDATE: First winner is Heather, she won a copy of Audiosurf

UPDATE #2: Second Winner is SM. A copy of Freedom Force was the prize!

This week you could win Left 4 Dead 2 from Gaming Bee! With a Metacritic score of 89/100, you'll find this game enjoyable for hours! It's got a retail value of ~$20 and it could be yours. This co-op action horror first person shooter takes your character through the cities, swampland and burial groundsof the far South, from Savannah, Georgia to New Orleans, LA across five huge campaigns. Playing as one of four new survivors, you're armed with a large and devastating array of classic and modified destructive weapons. In addition to firearms, aggression can be released on the infected with a variety of melee weapons, from the reliable chainsaws to sharply-honed axes and even the kitchen skillet. You'll put these weapons to the test against (or playing as in Versus) three horrifying and difficult new Special Infected.

Along the way, you'll run into five new “uncommon” common infected, including the monstrous Mudmen.

Want a chance to win this game? All you have to do is be sure you are registered for the weekly newsletter The Buzz from Gaming Bee. You'll get a link to follow to enter the random drawing and that's all there is to it! No spam, nothing to buy.
